Tampa Bay Express Hosting Community Engagements Meetings
On Monday, April 11th from 5:30 p. m. to 7:30 p. m., the Tampa Bay Express (TBX) and the City of Tampa will be host- ing the third round in a series of meetings at the John F. Ger- many Library, 900 North Ash- ley Drive.
The Florida Center for Community Design and Re- search (FCCDR), in coopera- tion with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7, City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, HART, and Hillsborough Plan- ning Commission, is inviting community representatives from City of Tampa Home- owner Associations, residents, and civic/business associations near the downtown Tampa in- terchange (I-275 at I-4) to par- ticipate in the third round of meetings regarding the TBX project.
The focus of this third
round of meetings is to create drawings and visually commu- nicate design strategies that the community has identified (from the first two rounds) ad- dressing neighborhood needs. Local agencies will work in co- ordination with FDOT to pro- vide options for neighborhood enhancements from the input of the community meetings.
An agenda for the meeting is available online, with 10 minutes being allotted to open house questions at the end of the meeting.
Several community groups have opposed this project, es- pecially Sunshine Citizens from the Seminole Heights community, and the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Associa- tion.
Representatives from these groups have attended the first two meetings, and have vowed to continue their efforts to stop
the project. They fear the de- struction of historic homes and lower property values will be the result of this project, and they are determined to protect their communities.
