Educator Closes Out School Year With Retirement
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
When Mrs. Mozella Ward Warren moved to Tampa in 1986, she became an educator with the Hills- borough County School Dis- trict. After more than 30 years, she has decided to re- tire at the end of the school year.
A native of Georgetown, South Carolina, she gradu- ated as the Salutatorian at Howard High School. She continued her education at the University of Washing- ton, in Seattle, where she earned her B. A. Degree in Education. She earned her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the Uni- versity of Missouri-Kansas City.
Mrs. Warren brought with her a wealth of experi- ence. The wife of Air Force Captain Pelzer J. War- ren, the family traveled ex- tensively. During her tenure as an educator, she has lived in Germany, where she served as the Interim Educa- tion Officer and Guidance Counselor for military per- sonnel. She also played on the

military base’s women’s bas- ketball and softball teams.
When her husband was re- located to Apple Valley, Cali- fornia, Mrs. Warren taught General Science at a middle school in that city.
After arriving in Tampa, her first assignment was at Turkey Creek Middle School, where she remained until 1993. She taught Science and served as a Guidance Coun- selor.
Mrs. Warren also was the Assistant Coach for the Girls Basketball Team, Club Sponsor for Teens for Christ, and Coached the Black His- tory and Culture Brain Bowl Team, sponsored by the Cen- ter of Excellence.
After leaving Turkey Creek Middle School, she was as- signed to Brandon High School, where she served as School Counselor and Bran- don Adult School Counselor until 2016.
While at Brandon High School, Mrs. Warren not only counseled the students about the importance of giv- ing of yourself, she demon- strated by her own involvement.
Some of the many activi- ties she was involved in in- cludes: the school’s contact for the United Way Cam- paign, the United Negro Col- lege Fund, (UNCF), the Education Foundation Take Stock in Children, the Elks Teenager of the Month, and was the Minority Liaison for Scholarships and other pro- grams such as the Sentinel’s Graduates Edition, among other responsibilities.
As retirement looms on her horizon, Mrs. Warren plans to spend time with her husband of 40 years, their daughters, Tassima and Tanesha, and other family members. And after a time, she will get back involved in the things that are close to her heart.
