Now in its seventh consecutive year, the UNWHD has successfully organised the annual World Halaal Day celebrations since 2014
in Singapore, India, Croatia, United Kingdom, South Korea and Russia respectively.
KwaZulu-Natal’s strategic focus on the global halaal industry kicked off in September 2019, when Trade & Investment KwaZulu- Natal, in partnership with its strategic key partners, the Albaraka Bank, The South African National Halaal Authority, National Independent Halaal Trust and Minara Chamber, launched the KwaZulu-Natal Halaal Hub. The initiative aims to grow the halaal export sector in the province by sourcing new markets; increase the manufacturing base through foreign direct investment, and develop African manufacturing companies in halaal compliance and export standards.
To achieve these key objectives, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development Tourism & Environmental Affairs has set aside 5 million Rand for the next three years to roll out supporting programmes. These will commence with the engagement of local and international stakeholders, followed by the transformation of the sector through the development of non-muslim businesses,
