Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home has been serving the the community since 1816 It has the the the distinction of of being not just one of of the the the oldest oldest continuing businesses in in in in in in New York State but the the the the oldest oldest oldest Funeral Home in in in the the the the state and the the the the second oldest oldest continually run funeral home in in in the the the entire country Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home originated in in in the mid 1700s although not as as as a a a a a a a a a funeral home we know today The business was started by by the Kirby Family early settlers of our community who operated a a a a a a wheelwright and wood working shop on Cottage Row Mr Kirby was approached by by by a a a a a a a a a farmer from Brookville who lost his wife wife He asked Mr Mr Kirby Kirby to build a a a a a a a casket for his wife wife who had passed Mr Mr Kirby Kirby obliged opening up our first practices into funeral service At the the beginning of the the 19th century Mr Mr Mr Kirby’s daughter had married a a a a a a Mr Mr Mr Jordan C Dodge Dodge Mr Mr Mr Dodge Dodge Dodge was given control of wood working shop and subsequently created Dodge Dodge Furniture Co the original furniture
showroom still sits at at 99 Glen Glen St in in in Glen Glen Cove The business was at at a a a a a a a intersection of of furniture
sales and funeral directing something unheard of of of today By 1816 the Dodge Furniture Co officially added funeral funeral directing and funeral funeral directors to to their list of of services offered Mr Jordan C Dodge Dodge had then passed the the the business to to his his son Herbert Kirby Dodge Dodge who continued to to expand his his fathers work and ambitions In 1894 the the Dodge Furniture and Funeral Directing company took their existing furniture
