Adult Education/GED Preparation Program - Flint
Adult Education/GED Preparation program is designed for participants to attain education levels equivalent to those of high school graduates. The program provides an opportunity to develop a better quality of life, work and enhance literacy skills with a sense of accomplishment. The curriculum is tailored to help participants improve their basic literacy and workplace skills with classroom instruction and technology.
The program prepares students to successfully take and pass the GED Test. Upon passing the GED Test, participants are prepared to pursue personal goals, such as training, employment, postsecondary education and/or career advancement.
GED Preparation classes are free of charge. Students take GED preparation classes to prepare to take the GED Test. Enrollment in the Adult Education program is all year round and classes are held in an open entry-open exit format on Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-12:00pm; 1:00pm-4:00pm; and 5:00pm-8:00pm.
GED Orientation is held every 1st and 3rd Friday’s from 9:30am-12:00am. Students must complete the following: Attend an Intake/Enrollment Session, TABE Testing, and meet with Career Navigator prior to being scheduled for classes. Intake/Enrollment and TABE Testing is every Tuesday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Summer Youth Programs
SYI Program Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) a ten week program that aids youth ages 14-18 currently in grades 9 - 12. The program runs from June 30th through September 1st. Youth are prepared for and connected with employment opportunities in a number of fields. Youth will gain more than just employment, they will also develop work expe- rience, learn valuable social skills and make connections that could one day direct them toward their dream job. Youth will take part in a community volunteer day as a part of the program giving the youth a sense of community pride and investment.
Core elements of this program include:
• Exposure to various computer and database programs and learn how to input data • Customer Service
• Office and Telephone Etiquette
• General Filing
• Community Outreach • Marketing
Eligibility Requirements:
• Complete and submit Teen Quest application
• Successfully complete the Teen Quest pre-employment leadership training
• 14 to 18 years old
• Currently in grades 9 through 12
• Reside and attend schools in Genesee County, either public, private, charter, alternative, or home school • Attend Job Fair
• Attend mandatory parent and youth orientation
