able to the public is October 2012, when the dissertation became available in printed form and in colour, at university libraries in USA, Australia, Greece and Serbia. I wish to express my gratitude to Kostas and Eleni Ourani Foundation and to Alexan- der S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation for supporting my doctoral research which is related to this work. The scholarships I received from these two foundations were of crucial importance for the completion of my research. During the years of my doctoral candidature I simultaneously studied theology at the University of Athens (2008–2012), while receiving a scholarship from the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. I express my gratitude for the kind support I received from the Holy Synod. I am also grateful to Fr Vasileios Chrysopoulos without whose assistance in that period my work would have been set back significantly.
I would like to express my gratitude to his Eminence Metropolitan of Peristeri Grig- orios Papathomas for providing me with indispensible, multifaceted advice and support during the more recent years. I am also very much grateful to Emeritus Professor Fr Andrew Louth for many of our discussions which since 2013 have contributed to my academic development. Also, in terms of academic advice, I wish to warmly thank my dissertation supervisor, Professor Vrasidas Karalis, as well as Dr Vasilis Adrahtas and Dr Andreas Andreopoulos. In terms of the most recent period, I thank Professor Cornelia Tsakiridou for her valuable advice in relation to various aspects of the publishing pro- cess.
I thank my friend Nicholas Koutras for meticulously proofreading the entire text. I also thank Ioanna Haviari for her technical support and Denis Vikić for professionally designing this final version of the book. I am most grateful to my aunt Radmila Semec for providing generous support in significant phases of the completion of this book. I thank my parents, Stanka Todorović (1946–2018) and Tomislav Todorović for their mor- al support and understanding. I am grateful to my wife Katerina and my daughter Stan- ka for their enduring support.
I warmly thank Sebastian Press for publishing this final version of my book, and in particular, I thank his Grace Bishop Maxim Vasiljević of the Western American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church for his kind interest and willingness to make the publi- cation possible.
