Byzantine Painting through Contemporary Eyes
   30. Above: Experiment over a photograph of the connection between the composition of The Resurrection and the depiction of Archangel Michael at the chapel of the church of Chora in Constantinople; 20 x 28 cm, Athens, private collection. (Author of the experiment: Uroš Todorović, 2010.)
31. Middle: Vasily Kandinsky, Fixed Flight, 1932, oil on panel, 49 x 70 cm, Paris, Collection M. and Mme. Maegh.
32. Bottom: Experiment over a photograph of the connection between the composition of The Resurrection and the depiction of Archangel Michael at the chapel of the church of Chora in Constantinople; 20 x 28 cm, Athens, private collection. (Author of the experiment: Uroš Todorović, 2010.) This experiment demonstrates how through the Byzantine experience Kandinsky’s work can relate to Rothko’s abstraction; the right side demonstrates how, when put on its side, the weather-affected depiction of Archangel Michael can be reminiscent of abstract features in Kandinsky’s work.
