Questions to Use During the Reading Stage at Home or In Class
In the during-reading stage, use questions to support the reader to analyse concepts for deeper understanding of the words and ideas in the story. The following examples can be adapted as required to suit the learning objectives and needs of the reader.
• What do you see on this page?
• How do you think the people in the story feel?
• What do you think is going to happen next?
When you have finished, talk about the following questions:
• What did they like?
• What didn’t they like?
• What can they remember about what happened?
• Who was their favourite person? Why?
• Link the story to their own experiences. Can they remember when they did something similar?
