COMMENTS
• The urine sediment examination, based on score systems, appears to be a useful tool to separate AKI due to ATN from AKI due to prerenal causes even though overlapping results are possible
• Granular casts & RTEC cells are the particles which were most frequently investigated to diagnose ATN
• Confirmatory studies based on larger patient populations, ? renal biopsies, and on sound methodology are needed and welcomed
