ATLANTIC COUNTY:
Wharton State Forest as part of the larger Pinelands National Reserve, Wharton State Forest is a vast expanse of preserved wilderness. The Batona Trail is a must for avid hikers, stretching 50 miles through the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The trail offers an immersive experience into the unique pine forest ecosystem, with plenty of opportunities to see rare plants and animals.

This Atlantic County park spans over 1,700 acres and features a variety of trails totaling more than four miles that wind through forests, along the banks of the South River, and past historical sites. One of the highlights is the Swamp Trail, a boardwalk path that takes you through a peaceful swamp, offering opportunities to spot wildlife like turtles and herons. The park also has several historical sites, including ruins of a World War I munitions plant and remnants of the Estellville Glassworks, which add a touch of historical intrigue to your hike. The Atlantic County Park System encompasses more than 7,400 acres with 18 active and passive recreational facilities and is open to hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross country endeavors.
The Atlantic County Bike Path which carves out 16 miles around Egg Harbor Township, is a favorite for bikers, runners, and walkers. The path, which generally runs along Reega Avenue, is a favorite for people wanting to see the local sites and get a great workout.
Birch Grove Park in Northfield, is a 1.5-mile shaded loop that is perfect for hiking or running. Numerous trails wind through the lakes.
