Ocean City has been a family favorite ever since 1879, when four Methodist ministers set out to create a wholesome seaside resort. Generations have since enjoyed its beaches, boardwalk, and bay.
The Ocean City Boardwalk spans 2.5 miles of family fun with rides, mini-golf, shops, iconic eateries, and attractions for all ages. The bayside buzzes with fishing charters, parasailing, rented watercraft, and even a floating water park for kids. Asbury Avenue’s downtown shopping district caters to families with its array of shops and restaurants.
A packed calendar of special events makes Ocean City a year-round destination. In spring,
kids can hunt for prizes and treats at the Boardwalk during two Great Egg Hunts. In May, Martin Z. Mollusk, the city’s hermit crab mascot, will seek his shadow, continuing a 50-year tradition of attempting to bring an early summer. The Spring Block Party also follows in early May.
Summer highlights include Fourth of July bike parades and fireworks, the popular Night in Venice boat parade in late July, and the annual Baby Parade that takes place in August.
Fall events include the Airport Festival and Parachute Pyrotechnic Show in September, the Boardwalk Aerobatic Air Show in mid- September, the Fall Block Party in October, and by October’s end, Dog Days on the Boardwalk and the Halloween Parade, and a
festive Christmas in the Downtown celebration begins in November. This celebration features Santa being rescued from the roof of city hall by a fire department ladder truck.
The year concludes with the family friendly First Night celebration on New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31 and the First Day at the Beach on Jan. 1. For more details or call 1-800-BEACH-NJ or visit www.oceancityvacation.com
