IF IMITATION is the sincerest form of flattery – and we certainly believe that to be true – then the concierge beach services offered by more and more of our oceanfront hotels are a win-win for guests.
In Cape May, from the Rusty Nail north to the Montreal Beach Resort and La Mer – and the Virginia Hotel on Jackson Street – upscale hotels are providing services that makeadayatthebeach–well, adayatthe beach. Hotels provide beach tents, lounge chairs, towels, a cooler filled with beverages and many hotels will deliver lunch right to
your beach chair.
The Reeds at Shelter Haven in Stone
Harbor provides shuttle service to and from the beach, on your schedule, with chairs, towels, tags, umbrellas or any other amenities, plus lunch or snacks throughout the day.
Steger’s Beach Service in Cape May has been renting beach boxes for decades – and beach goers all say the same thing: once you have one, chances are you’ll never want to be without it again! Probably the only resort that provides such a service, the boxes can store a lot of paraphernalia so forget the
hassle of dragging the umbrella, chairs, toys and more from the car to the beach – and back again. Pretty convenient.
Need a bit of shade on a summer day? Rent one of those signature blue cabanas with a design that goes back to the Civil War, a fixture on the resort’s beaches for more than 85 years. The tents are spacious and shady, perfect for families with small children or people who want a little privacy with a spacious seating area, a bench to sit on or place things off the sand. The sides can be rolled up or down, depending on sun, shade or breezes.
For the rest of us, though, most beaches in Cape May and Atlantic counties have beach concessions that rent chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards and other items.
The Wildwoods: This summer this huge beach will host Carrie Underwood – do you believe it? – and the Barefoot Country Music Fest June 19 to 21 featuring a mix of country music’s biggest stars. Boots on the Beach returns in September. Plus, there are kite-flying competitions, baseball and soccer tournaments and the largest Frisbee event anywhere. Rock concerts attract huge crowds as do the monster trucks.
A Perfect Recipe: Combine a couple bottles of sunscreen with happy faces for an unforgettable day at the beach
