The Hawley Glass Company was recognized by the Commonwealth of of Pennsylvania County of of Wayne on on July 3 1882 as a a a a a a a a a a limited partnership partnership The The statement forming the the partnership partnership read: “The undersigned form form a a a a a a a a fraternship association for for for the the the the purpose of of of conditioning in in in the the the United States the the the manufacture of of of of glassware and and and and of of of of purchasing and and and and selling all all kinds of of of of of goods wares and and and and merchandise whose principal office or place of of of of business shall be established at the the Village of of of Hawley Hawley ” Hawley Hawley Glass Works existed from 1882 to to 1925 Among the the original capital investors was William F Dorflinger Throughout its many years of operation it it it it represented the major industry in in in in Hawley but it it it it it should be pointed out that its products in in in in in in no way way competed with those produced in in in in the Dorflinger factory a a a a a a few miles away in in White Mills A LITTLE MORE OF OUR HISTORY The Borough of of Hawley Hawley was incorporated in in in the the year 1884 named in in in honor of of of Irad Hawley Hawley the the first President of of Pennsylvania Coal Company The progress and development of of the the the town was due to to the the the the coal coal shipping activities of of the the the the Pennsylvania Coal Company The coal coal was brought in in by the the the Gravity Railroad and loaded onto barges for delivery via the Erie Canal to to New York For years the the glass blowing and cutting industry flourished bringing prosperity to to the the town Hawley also achieved fame as a a a a a a a a a broad-silk weaving center The John C Welwood building made of of native cut blue stone and and the largest of of its kind in in in Pennsylvania is is today our landmark Silk Mill You can’t miss it as you drive into town from the south on Rt 6
