Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest
Diabetes Essay Contest is an annual competition allowing student participants opportunity to research, organize, and present perspective on a given topic related to Diabetes. The contest emphasizes on new ideas, understanding and dissecting societal and individual issues associated with the condition. Contestants have opportunity to win scholarship money for college .
This year’s topic is “Accepting a Diabetes Diagnosis: What can Parents, Partners, and Caretakers do to help love ones adjust to a new normal”.
Some individuals diagnosed with diabetes have difficult time accepting a diabetes diagnosis and fail to seek medical attention for the disease. What specific recommendations can you provide for parents, partners, family members, and caretakers to help love ones adjust to living with diabetes and help them live long and healthy lives.
Basic Rules/Qualifications:
• Contestant must be sponsored by a Lions Club in District 2-X1 http://www.lions2-x1.org $100 provided by the sponsoring club payable to 2X1 Charities Inc.
• Contestants must be juniors or seniors
•The title of the contestants’ essay is not required to be the same as the subject for the essay. Hoever,
HHowever, the essay should analyze the problem given in the subject and present a solution/s to the
problem.
• The essay shall not exceed 1500 words. Bibliography is not included in the 1500 word count.
• Awards at District level: 1st Place - $500. Winner of the District will go on to participate in the
State competition at the State Convention in Corpus Christi, TX
• For State Competition: Submit a complete application packet to include: - State contest Application
- Two wallet –sized color photographs (head and shoulders close-up)
- Signed copy of Code of Conduct and Chaperone Guidelines
- Medical Power of Attorney
- Four (4) printed copies of the essay.

• Jan 1, 2018- Submission deadline of the Application and Essay to Lion Gloria Mathur 8705 Baltusrol Dr. Flower Mound, TX 75022
• Jan. 12, 2018 – Contestants Notified
• Jan. 20, 2018 - Winner Award & Essay presented at District Mid- winter Conference
• May 24-26, 2018 – State Convention in Corpus Christi, TX
