  Lions Clubs International - District 2-X1, 2017-18
District Governor Henry White
Grassroots Lion Award
   2017-2018 GRASSROOTS LION AWARD
District 2-X1’s recognition of ‘Special Lions’ ("Grassroots Lions") was begun in 1985 by Past Council Chair John Eads of the DeSoto Lions Club. He realized the need to acknowledge the “WE SERVE” attitude and the actions of deserving Lions for their unheralded Lionistic work within their Clubs, Community, and Lionism. The “Grassroots Lion Award” is designed to recognize an “up and coming” Lion in the Lions Club who has been a Lion just for a few years, but has been exemplary to the spirit of Lionism through deeds and service to others. This is a recognition designed to honor a Lion who has not been so honored by the District previously.
What PCC John Eads started and developed into a vital District Recognition Program in 1985 as District Governor, has been followed by each succeeding Governor of this District.
Award Nomination – Club’s nomination of a “Lion of 5 years or less” should be as that particular Club’s “Grassroots Lion” (NOT as “Lion of the Year”). Clubs should submit its nomination (only ONE LION per club), on the prescribed form, on or before April 1, 2018. The completed form and a fee of $10 (payable to “District 2-X1” with memo ‘Grassroots Lion fee’) should be mailed to 2VDG Vinod Mathur. This amount of $10 partially covers the cost of recognition materials, but will NOT COVER the dinner of award-recipient. The dinner has to be reserved in advanced and paid for separately for the award-recipient and any guests by using the District Convention Registration Form (available separately).
Grassroots Lion Recognition - The Grassroots Lion Awards are handed out at a special function, as part of the District Convention, on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Advance dinner registration for the Award recipient is required. Many clubs not only pay for their nominee, but also invite the recipient’s partner-in- service/children for this unique occasion. Club members also participate in large groups in celebrating the recognition of that very special member of the club.
