Bruce J. Barber, II Director of Music
FROM PSALM 137:
Indeed...how shall we sing? How shall we play and hear and engage in the song together? Friends, we are in a very “strange land” during this time of pandemic – I call it “COVID-tide.” Like for the people of Israel in exile in Babylon, this time is temporal for us. It has and will continue to challenge us and our creativity to navigate our way through it to what we will surely call a new normal. In the meantime, we will journey the transitory road through this pandemic to our new Jerusalem...our new normal...together.
This year, you are receiving the Christ Church Christiana Hundred music brochure electronically, and there are no hard copies being printed. What you will see in this brochure is what we believe we can offer during this COVID-tide. Believe with us.
We will communicate directly with you via email about every upcoming event and its status. A number of these events will be online only, while others will be held as in-person events. Many will have both options.
While our musical events and services have been either limited in scope or simply cancelled due to COVID-19, I invite you to partake of the abundant beauty God has lavishly bestowed upon us through music, liturgy, and song – both online
and in person – and to open yourself in body, mind, and spirit to the very presence of God, especially during this time.
We invite you to support the Concert Events listed in this brochure by making a direct contribution online at www.christchurchde.org/music-contributions. We will gratefully receive your support and will hope to see you at as many of the events we are able to present as you feel comfortable attending.
Let us walk this road together – singing and making music in our hearts to the Artist Inimitable.
󰃭ejoice
By the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept,
when we remembered you, O Zion. As for our harps, we hung them up
on the trees in the midst of that land. For those who led us away
captive asked us for a song,
and our oppressors called for mirth:
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.” How shall we sing the Lord’s song
in a strange land?
