Excellent Cross Country Season Marred By Poor Showing In States
Coach Ralph Muoio gave an apt summation of this year’s Cross Country season by remarking that, “ It was a successful season with a disappointing finish.” The team compiled an 11-6 dual meet record yet finished fourth in the state meet.
The start of the season was marked by the enthusiasm of the Muoiomen. The team had eight returning lettermen from last year’s championship team and had high hopes of another state title. By midseason the harriers had defeated Morristown-Beard and Newark Academy, both serious chal lenges to the team.
The turning point of the season came when injuries to four runners kept the team from a needed win over Princeton Day.
The harriers, co-captained by Paul Harris and Walter Uhlman, remained competitive, but were unable to capture the State Title a second time.
