Guards Spearhead Hoopster Comeback Yet .500 Mark Eludes Team
What did the future hold for a team with a 1-6 record, including losses to two “ B” Division schools? It held a comeback. This year’s varsity boy's basketball team rebounded to win ten of its last 16 games to finish with a respectable 11-12 mark. Freshman Brian Roach earned a starting spot after the Rams began to stumble early in the season. He went on to lead the team in scoring and assists. Co-captains Steve Braun and Lou Piano received help from John Skolka and Dean De Santis in leading the comeback. Coach Ray Kovonuk, pleased with the team’s “ never quit" attitude, commented that “ the key to making this a respectable year was doing what we had to do . . . only better. We did not lose our poise.”
