On September 15, 1976, we were two separate groups. As we approached the Wardlaw-Hartridge School for the first time, many felt excitement, some were seized by nervousness, while others feared the unknown. After a year of dis­ cussion, tension and compromise some of us felt as though we might
be swallowed up by a larger, more impersonal school, while others sensed the advent of a new, more vibrant community. As each bell rang, we entered our classrooms with new teachers and classmates, uncertain of others’ thoughts and feelings. Our emotions peaked on this first day as we were confronted with the challenge.
