When Bob retires this June, there are many people that he will be sad to leave behind but 1think it is the kids he will miss most of all. He won't miss the late phone calls from Holmes Security because the alarms are ringing where someone forgot to close a door. The school has been such a happy part of his life for so many years that it will be a while before he can truly enjoy his new life of leisure. Many times when we were out somewhere on a weekend, he would say, "Let'sjust ride by the school a minute. I want to make sure everything is O.K."Such ded ication is hard to find. However, I will be doing my part to keep him occupied. I have provided him with a work list that will take him to age 95 to complete.
That is one reason why he recently converted our greenhouse into a Norm Abrams type workshop. I'm sure that he didn't intentionally injure his back this past summer so that 1had to tote the bundles of shingles up to the roof and then nail them on. Just how slick is he? Anyone who would like to see this Shangrila of workshops is welcome to come on a tour.
Since 1began this piece with a few comments about our marriage, it is only fitting that I end it on the same note. I have spent 41 years with this man, 44 if you count the time we dated before 1dragged him to the altar, and 1wouldn't have missed a minute of it for anything in the world. I hope he won't be embarrassed when I say that he is a wonderful, kind and considerate husband, a super father and by best friend.
