The Banquet, 1931
1C he Athletic Banquet held at the end of May under the management of Janet Creighton, the president of the Association, and Nancy Corbusier, chairman of the banquet, came as the climax to a very successful season.
That evening as we entered the auditorium, the green and white decorations, the long tables in the traditional form of a letter H, the candle light, and the scurry and laughter to find our places put us into the most
festive of moods. During the course of a delicious dinner Marcia Conger, our charming toastmistress, introduced Miss Hartridge and then Miss Mapelsden, to whom we listened with the greatest of pleasure, and finally Mademoiselle Michalot, our guest of honor, who filled us with pride that we could understand and appreciate her French poem in praise of the Hartridge girls. The out-going and in-coming presidents of the various associations were cheered enthusiastically; Mrs. Blount and Miss
Clifford spoke; and at last, after the letters and emblems had been awarded to members of the teams, and the tennis cup to Althea Crow for the second time, the banner was given to the White Team for the most points of the year. After listening to the Senior class prophecy amidst roars of laughter, we arose to receive our long anticipated annuals and stood about
in groups scanning them while awaiting the Senior skit, which proved to be most amusing pictures of their childhood. All too soon, having danced a short while, we bid good-evening to Miss Hartridge and Miss Mapelsden,
and regretfully departed.
