January eighteenth, 1919, was an eventful date, for on that night the Oakwood Dramatic Society presented its first play, “The Elopement of Ell en.“ I lie play was a simple one, but, in giving it we had numerous difiiculties such as the dropping out of several members of the cast because of jire\ ailing sickness.
I he lieroine, June Haverhill, was charmingly impersonated by Ethel wyn (jarnhle, while Nancy Doggett played the part of Dorothy March, the “pretty young girl,” delightfully. Serena Murphy made a most con vincingly masculine hero, while Hariet Davis as the Reverend Mr. Hume
furnished the comedy side of the play to perfection.
I he money which was cleared at the play was donated to the Red Cross.
