6.20 A. M.— Frances, awakening, fortifies herself against the hitter cold of a winter’s morning, and closes all the windows in the Acorn.
6.45 A. M.—Simultaneously, the alarm clock goes oft and a loud thump is heard throughout the Acorn, which indicates that Margaret has arisen. She hastens to her morning bath, and Aliss Hedges is awakened by the sound of her puffing, due to her enjoyment of the cold water and fresh morning air.
7.22 A. M.—The bell rings and the girls hasten over to breakfast only to find that the clocks have gone wrong and the rest are already at the table.
9.00 A. M.—School: Everybody works hard until one o’clock.
1 1 . 10 A. M.— Recess. Margery Aleigs and Anna Frazar, owing to their holding most of the offices at school, in some mysterious way man­
age to stay indoors almost all of the time.
1.35 P. M.—Lunch. At the small table, a deep discussion is kept up chiefly by Helena, Margery and Miss Sandison, with occasional
contributions from Anna Lamar and Miss Wyckoff. silent. (Is she thinking deeply? One wonders.)
Virginia is
3.00 P. M.—Ethelwyn, because of her objection to violent exercise, tries
to escape the watchful eyes of Miss Shaw, but Jane is active enough for both.
4.30 P. M.—Study-hour. Caroline spends her time pacing the floor,
we suppose to find necessary hooks and perhaps an inspiration. It
is a wonder Jane has pencils left at the rate she uses the pencil sharpener.
