Varsity Field Hockey
Teamwork was the trademark for this year’s field hockey team, the result of many years of interaction and experience among the varsity players. With many members sporting four-year varsity records, and led by co-captains Maria Wilson and Jill Kenny dedication to the team ran high. From pre-season drudgery through the mid-season slump, the team always "continues to fight on” as one player aptly stated, and finally bound ed back to produce a winning season with victories against public schools like South Brunswick and Mon roe, as well as a tie score against longtime rival Kent Place. The Rams ultimately took the Division B Cham pionship for 1982, after which they took their coach and co-captains into the showers. Looking back, "We peaked at just the right time,” commented Wilson.
High Scorer was Ria Wilson, with 23 goals, and for ward Julie "Cas” Casagrande led in season assists. Strong defensive support was provided by Jill Kenny, Karen Robinson, and Kim Perkins. First year varsity goalie Ellen Bart finished the season with 5 shutouts and strong performances during penalty flicks. Team members honored with All-State titles include both co captains Wilson and Kenny, Casagrande, Perkins, Rob inson, and Bart. Since most of the starting lineup will graduate this spring, W-H can look forward to seeing many new faces on varsity next fall.
