P. 6
The Centennial year has not only been a milestone in the history of Wardlaw-Flar- tridge, but also a landmark of revitalization for its future. From the first day of school to the last, the 1982-83 school year has been one full of intense learning experiences, enthusiasm, and spirit, none of which ever has seemed more prominent than in this one- hundredth anniversary year.
From the kindergarten all the way through to the senior class, everyone has played an important part in making this year one that will be remembered. Whether it be from participating in the lower school talent show or winning state championships in sports, each student can say he or she has made a contribution.
Wardlaw-Flartridge is more than just a learning institution that has been in existence for a century. It has withstood two world wars, two Asian conflicts, a depression, and several recessions, feats that few other schools can boast.
Yet there must be a reason for the school not only to have survived, but to have flourished, and that reason goes beyond Wardlaw-Flartridge having an excellent physical and fiscal foundation. The students are ready, willing, and able to take on the challenges set before them; the faculty is prepared to test the students and teach them with a guiding hand; and the headmaster provides the leadership necessary to maintain a sense of direction in troubled times. Still, these attributes are not the entire reason for the school’s achievements. The only way to find this answer, this intangible quality which makes the school what it is, is to be a part of the school. Searching the history of the school gives some hint, but the unity and diversity of the school is only partially captured there. Each person has his own separate and special reason why Wardlaw-Flartridge is a success and will continue to be for the next one hundred years.
