 The Backbone of Hartridge
♦
There’s a legion that never is listed, That carries no colors or crest;
But split in three worthy detachments Is making the road for the rest.
There’s Bailey who comes in the dawning To heat and to sweep out our rooms.
He cleans up the Ice and the snowbanks And levels our path with his brooms.
I'hen Mrs. Summers comes smiling, in starchy and spotless white.
Without her punctual presence The school would not go right.
And last but not least comes Martin, Through snow and sleet and rain.
There’s never a day he misses To bring us our hoarders again.
Our teachers all give us their blessing. They teach us and help us each day.
But it’s Martin, Mrs. Summers, and Bailey Who prepare us a comfortable way.
