The renowned Beacon has been the official school newspaper since 1954, and under the direction of Mr. Paoli since 1971. Appearing monthly, the Beacon carries news of current Ward- law-Hartridge functions and activities. The paper is written solely by the stu dents, who take full responsibility for the editing and photography. Most of its writers studied journalism in the ninth grade, and started writing for the paper in the tenth.
Each year, a select group of juniors and seniors is chosen to be editors. This year, the chief editor was Kathy Haykal. Martin McDougall was senior news editor, with the able assistance of juniors Sean McMullen and Joy Butler. Sports occupy a special place at Wardlaw-Hartridge, and coverage of this area was managed by senior Barry Leonowicz and junior Rudy Brandi. Be tween the experience of this year’s ju nior and Mr. Paoli’s steady hand, next year’s Beacon looks toward to contin ued success.
