CROSS COUNTRY
Harriers High Hopes Shattered
During pre-season practice it looked as if Coach Ralph Muoio had a cham pionship team on his hands. His first, third, and fifth runners from last year were returning and showed considerable improvement. In addition, the rest of the team showed enough strength to stay close behind the front-runners to provide valuable displacement points.
But, even before the start of the season, the team lost its first and
third men to sickness and injury. Without these two, the team, under the leadership of Co-Captain Tom Glasser, was forced to compensate for the loss. Glasser ran exceptionally well, taking a 58th place finish in the Middlesex County Meet, the best ever for the team, and 8th place in the State Meet. Allan, Estrin and Gary Johnson traded second and third positions as they cut more than a
minute from their times.
Although they gave their best, they
came up short; in Coach Muoio’s words, “ this was the season that could have been but wasn’t.”
