“ In this, my first year at Wardlaw-Hartridge, I look for ward to a stronger, healthier school’’ were the words of Dr. Brian Wright as he reflected upon his newly appointed position as Head of the Lower School. This comes after a difficult year of transition as the two schools merged.
Dr. Wright, who graduated from Occidental College and earned his PhD. at Princeton University, previously worked in the Federal State Department and taught at St. John’s University in New York. He was disappointed with the im personal and bureaucratic atmosphere of the State De partment. As a professor of politics, sociology and educa tion at St. John’s, Dr. Wright enjoyed teaching and relating to students; however, he was frustrated by the judgment of his abilities on the amount of material he was able to pub lish rather than the quality of his teaching. Because of these previous disappointments Dr. Wright has come to Wardlaw-Hartridge where he hopes to play a more vital role than previous positions have allowed him and also to be able to use his individual talents to the best of his ability.
He looks toward a consolidated new school and a new level of communication which would enable teachers, par ents, students and administrators to work together for the betterment of the students.
