AKLV last fall, the Tennis Tonrnanient was organized, and,
thanks to INliss Shaw, the girls \])layed off their sets with
alaerity. As the semi-finals, and at last the finals, approached,
the excitement became intense. /Vt last Catherine Stockwell was
announced winner of the tournament, and then the cham\])ionship games were in order.
Catherine Stockwell and Katherine Shellabarger, the two aspirants to the title, faced each othei’ in three hard-fought sets, and Mere Avell matched in skill and in enduranee. Each did her best, and
the s\])irit sliOM’ii throughout the contest Mas of the best. Each gained
one set; at last Katherine Shellabarger captured the third, and M'ith it the title of Tennis Chanphon of 1917.
