The Athletic Association
Oakwood, T he H artridge School, Plainfield, New Jersey, April 29, 1917.
Dear Polly,
I want to tell you about the banquet we had last Friday night. It was
more fun ! The rest of the Athletic Association gave it to us Seniors be cause we had won the inter-class basket-ball series. I was glad we won for more than one reason, Polly;—to tell the truth, my pocketbook has
been rather flat since vacation.
It was at night,— a very unusual thing, at least as far as we boarders
are concerned. We all wore afternoon dresses. It was so voted the day before. This was the first time we had joined the day girls in any
thing but school clothes. I wore my black and white taffeta, (you know, the one with the Bird of Purgatory on the collar).
The banquet w'as at seven-thirty. The tables looked just dear! There were many yellow flowers all over them, and in the center, pink roses that Mary B. had sent the Seniors, with the darlingest card in the
world with them! The tables were placed like the three sides of a square. (Pm taking Exposition in English now, so 1know all about how to describe
carpet-sweepers and dogs so that people can easily imagine how they look. That “three sides of a square” made me think of it.) The Seniors were on the outside of the middle table, with the Juniors, who held second
