Commencement, 1916
On the ninth of June, ninteen hundred and sixteen, the Commence ment Exercises of the Hartridge School took place in the auditorium. The hall was decorated with daisies and laurel, and the aisles were marked
off with white ribbons. The front of the stage was a mass of green and white, and above this were the many beautiful bouquets received by the graduates.
By ten o’clock every seat was filled, and Miss Hartridge, followed by the speakers, the Faculty, and the graduating class, took her place on the stage. Then the academic and the sixth and seventh grades marched
m.
Dr. Zelie, of the Crescent Avenue Church, opened the service with
a prayer. A hymn was then sung, followed by the introduction, by Dr. Zelie, of Dr. A. V. V. Raymond, who gave us an address on “ Moderation
in All Things.’’ It was an address which interested us all and made us resolve to do better things. After the address Miss Hartridge gave a solemn talk to the graduating class, and presented the diplomas.
T h e e x e r c i s e s c l o s e d w i t h a h y mn a n d a b e n e d i c t i o n , a n d w e a l l marched out of the auditorium. An informal little reception followed in the school rooms, which were filled with the flowers which the graduates
had received. The graduates were: Sarah Carvalho, Louise Earle, Lucille Martin, Margaret Miller, Keyo Tetsuka, and Barbara Van Vliet.
