 The Final Hockey Game
The game that was to decide the fate of the Blue and Cerise teams was played at Oakwood on Tuesday, November 21. Both sides were evenly matched, as had been shown by the repeated ties in the previous
games. All the non-combatants were ranged along the side lines, flaunt ing their colors, and various little groups of girls were hurriedly rehears ing yells and songs which were designed to put more “pep” into their team, d'hen the game began.
Enthusiastic cheers burst from the Cerise and Blue sides as the ball started away down the field with both teams in hot pursuit. After a sturdy resistance on the part of the Cerises, the Blues got the ball and Alice Joy made a goal.
Again the Blues scored; this time Bertha Tilney sent the ball in. Wild clamors were heard from the Cerises, imploring a goal, while pink ties and coats were waved wildly to show that the rooters were by no means daunted. The Blue cheering section, though small in number, was loud in triumphant shouts.
But then the ball was sent away by Anna Frazar, who scored for the Cerises. After a hard struggle up and down the field, Julia Taylor and Dorothy Osland each made a goal for the Blues. xAnna Frazar made
another goal for the Cerises, bringing the score up to 4— 2 in favor of the Blues. i\t this point time was called, and in the intermission the Cerise
cheering section performed a snake-dance.
The whistle blew, and an error gave the Cerises a point. Then the
ball wavered between the goals until Alice Joy and Dorothy Osland scored for the Blues. But Saidee Sandford, encouraged by the cheers and cries of the rooters, seized the hall, dribbled it down the field, and shot by
the goal keeper.
Fighting hard to the very end, the teams played desperately for the
last few moments. Just before the final whistle, Dorothy Osland made the 1ast goal of the game, leaving the score 7— 4 in favor of the Blues.
