 MILITARY TRAINING
OX the day after war was declared Mr. Wardlavv put the matter of military training before the school. It was decided to take it up seriously and to drill every
morning' during recess. The boys have been drilling every dav since then and have learned the fundamentals of both close and extended order. We ho\])e that the younger fel
lows will take this training seriously. We also hope to have guns and uniforms by the end of the year. The Press IJoard wishes to see the “W'ardlaw Cadet Cori)s" one of
the best of its kind in this vicinity.
A signal corps has been formed from the two upper
classes. They are now learning the International Morse code. We think this will be a very effective and useful corps in case of emergency.
BASKET BALL
^ I ''H E basketball season opened on December 8th with a defeat for us, and it looked ver\}' unfavorable for a while, but as the season progressed the team improved wonderfully. They played with more skill, and by the time we had played our last game, we had won far more than we had lost. Mr. Wardlaw is to be greatly praised for the
way he coached us, and we are sure he is responsible for the success of the team.
FOOT BALL
'OFCAL^SE Wardlaw is a new school and our coach had no previous chance to find out the ability of the avail able men we had a foot ball season which was not as good
as it might have been. This was something which we ex pected to a certain extent so our men were not discouraged when they were beaten.
The spirit on the sidelines improved from the start and the team had very few games without a group of loyal sup- \]:iorters waiting for a chance to yell.
IMrs. Rossman was very good to us, offering several \]>rizes which, unfortunately, we were unable to keep for ourselves.
We expect to put out a team next year which will make a better record and the past season will not daunt it in the
least.

The season was successfully opened on Thursday, April
19, 1917, by our team defeating that of the North Plain- held Freshmen by the score of 9 to 6. We sincerely hope the team will keep up this good work the remainder of the season. l\Ir. Hartshorne deserves a great deal of credit
for the wav he has coached the team.
The Press Iloard takes this opportunity to wish Captain
Latham a most successful season.
