When EDGAR ALLAN POE stopped at THE PLANTERS he wrote: “Last night for supper we had the nicest tea you ever drank, strong and hot, wheat bread and rye bread, cheese, tea
cakes (ele.gant), a great dish of elegant ham, two of cold veal, three dishes of cake, and everything in the greatest profusion. No fear of starving
here.”*
It is the purpose of THE PLANTERS of to day to maintain its reputation and tradition of
THE EARLY FORTIES.
