A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
J Midsummer Niyhl's Dream, presented last June, was the first play to be performed on the new out-door stage at Oakwood. It took place oh the evening of June third. The entertainment had been attempted the previous evening, but a sudden thunder storm and a rising wind had forced both the spectators and the actors to seek shelter. However, the act which had been performed was a promise of a charming entertainment and the evening of June third found an even more enthusiastic audience waiting
for the play to begin.
The lighting effects were skillfully produced and the new stage formed
a fitting background for the swiftly changing scenes. The characters were excellently portrayed by the cast, \drginia Murray and Mary Harriet Collins were the two ardent lovers, and Dorothy Bugbee and Anne Breck- enridge the charming objects of their adoration. Sally Taylor as Theseus and Margaret Ludwig as his beautiful bride were properly majestic in demeanor, and Sarah Maud Weyerhaeuser played the overbearing father to perfection. The troupe of artisans was exceedingly amusing, and gave its performance of Pyramus and Thisbe in an amazingly spirited manner. Jean Bassett as Bottom in a huge donkey’s head with a most life-like ex pression convulsed the audience with mirth. In sharp contrast with these
