An uncertain world waits as you step out of school today, diplomas in hand. You have heard this often during your school years. But is the prospect any more formidable to day than it was when I graduated - or even I'lhen your grand fathers graduated? Seemingly insurmountable problems have faced every generation since recorded history began. Yet
manl<ind has managed to cope with all kinds of problems as they have arisen,
VJhether we like it or not, your lot is cast v/ith those viho graduate from school in 1968, The time has come for you to face another level of academic demands, I was told by an old Navy chief petty officer the night before 1 was commis sioned a midshipman in October, 1 , "Today you are one of us. Tomorrow you will be an officer!" This was the end of the cruise as far as being an enlisted man was concerned. My problem then, as yours is now, was whether 1 was ready to assume the added responsibilities and obligations which faced me.
The trustees and faculty feel you are ready to assume added responsibilities and obligations; hence, they have awarded you the Wardlavj diploma. In accepting this honor, you also assume the obligation, just as Wardlaw graduates in the past have done, to accept the responsibility of doing your best to cope with the problems that confront you today,
I have faith that each of you vjill carry himself in the best Wardlaw tradition in the years aliead, bringing credit there by both to yourselves and to your school.
