In which our author packs his bags, starts life anew, and packs them again, both times for the best of purposes and, those purposes having been served, packs them yet again.
Taking the Longview
A wise woman was Kathryn Meyer, now Kathryn Meyer Yaverbaum, but, as I write this, she remains Kathryn Meyer for the purposes of res- taurant reservations, hotel reservations, airplane tickets, and just about everything else. As is still her wont, she had made things extremely clear. There was no way that I was moving into her home on Longview Place in Great Neck until we were both fully committed to each other, and not just in spirit. That was easy for me, and not just because of the obvious savings in rent that would follow.
(And I do wish to make it clear that it wasn’t that simple; one would have to offset the rent savings with the cost of a commute that would thereby be incurred. Of course, one would have to then add back to the savings the cost of food, which would go down: no more takeout. Per- haps, however, it would all be a wash—which would now also be done essentially for free—but that is hardly the point. I was in love, and,
