Why (as in yaverbaum)
Annabelle’s greetings to the guests, delivered in flawless English, and David’s greetings to the guests, delivered in what I assume was flawless French.
On August 14, 2010, we traveled to Stratton, Vermont (having a notable tiff along the way, as we got lost, I overreacted, Kathy responded by ripping up into small pieces the only directions that we had, and then—sensing the ludicrousness of the spat—we both broke out in uncontrollable laughter), where, outdoors in the mountain setting, a minister married Christine Kim and Peter, as they stood with brides- maids and groomsmen in traditional American wedding garb and then, indoors, the bride and groom donned traditional, very colorful and beautiful, Korean wedding costumes and repeated their ceremony, this time as it is done in Korea (during which Kathy and I were called upon to throw candy at the radiant couple)—following which there was a reception in Stratton Mountain’s main lodge, the walls of which were decorated by a continually changing array of more-than-life-size pro- jected photographs, about half of which I was proud to see that I had taken, of the wedding couple when they were (adorable) children.
On October 20, 2012, Kathy, David, and I held up the nuptials of Melissa Martens and Danny for at least thirty minutes, as we got stuck in horrendous traffic on our way to the Ethical Culture Society Building on Prospect Park West in Park Slope, Brooklyn (and I am eternally grateful that the nuptials were held up), and, when we finally got there, about an hour after the time set forth on the invitation, I (wearing an elaborate neck brace, following my cervical fusion on October 1 and still having trouble walking) was virtually carried up the stone steps at the entrance (by Dave and Dan). And then, seated and holding court like the Godfather in a portable wheelchair, I was delighted by the fare, all of which was prepared by Melissa’s friends, and, most of all, by wit- nessing the exchange of vows by the couple, she in a beautiful white gown and he in a top hat and tails, at a ceremony that was presided over skillfully by Danny’s best friend, dating all the way back to the Heath- cote Elementary School, Emmet Witchel, who had flown in from Austin, Texas, to do the honors.
