The iron lung was first used at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1929, and became an important tool for the care of sufferers of paralytic polio. The BEI showcased the original Iron Lung and Pulmonary Archive Display in the BEI Knowledge Center.
The development and use of Anesthesia in medicine has a long history at BWH. Our “Painless” exhibit in the BEI Knowledge center presented artifacts from the earliest days of ether in the 1840s up through the present — including a 2018, state-of-the-art anesthesia workstation, courtesy of General Electric Healthcare.
The BEI’s latest presentation displays BWH’s Department of Nursing’s rich history of excellence. This exhibit showcases a robost archive of dedication to promoting healing to our patients, families, and community.
