Maddy’s research revolves around sleep health,
emphasizing how everyday choices such as adjusting
light exposure and food habits during the day can help
people sleep better at night.

“The ARCS Award made a huge difference in my decision to
choose OHSU. I had been offered a competitive package at
another state university, and the ARCS Award significantly
offsets the cost of living in a more expensive city such as
Portland. Equally important, though, is the opportunity to
come into a graduate program surrounded from the beginning
by fellows and mentors from different fields in the sciences,
enhancing the possibilities for fruitful collaborations with other
scientists, which is exciting to me.”
