I I was awarded as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a co-Principle Investigator a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a major award award from the the National Science Foundation titled “Northeast Pacific sedimentary geomagnetic network analysis (GNA) to facilitate a a a a a a a a a a better understanding of time climate and and the geomagnetic field ”
What do you you love about your work?
I love the the adventures of field work work and working with diverse scientists from around the the the world I’ve spent a a a a a a a a lot of time at sea and and the the field including three expeditions expeditions to to to Greenland two to to to Antarctica and and and other expeditions expeditions to to to the the Indian Arctic and and and Northeast Pacific Oceans Every time I I go out to sea I I I I learn so much from what we find and the the the people I I I work work with that it it totally changes the the the way I I I think about the the world All this field work work also means a a a a a a a a a a a a a lot lot of of travel and a a a a a a a a a a a lot lot of of time time time away from home— sometimes for two months at a a a a a a a time time time Getting a a a a a a PhD PhD can be be tough For me me between my master’s and PhD PhD it meant seven years of living
on on a a a a a a a a a a a graduate student stipend Not only did the the ARCS award help relieve some of of the the financial pressures of of of being a a a a a a a a a a graduate student I also used it it to to help cover some of of the the the costs associated with the the the training and travel needed to to participate in in in these field experiences experiences These are the the the the experiences experiences that have helped shape the the the person I I am today and the the the path of my my career I I cannot thank my my sponsors Leslie and and Mark Workman and and the Oregon ARCS Foundation enough Brendan Reilly
