Scholars & Donors
Susan Smith
Donor
"Supporting ARCS scholars is our way of paying back for all the contributions graduate students made to our academic careers and research programs. We know how important support is for students as they progress through their graduate training. The reward is being a part of our future scientists and innovators. Our support for these scholars is a small contribution compared to the many amazing discoveries they will make."
Jesse Laney
Scholar
"The generosity I received from the ARCS scholar award provided greater financial stability during my graduate career and played a large part in inspiring me to make positive changes in my field of study as a wildlife ecologist and field biologist. I co-founded FieldSafeOSU, a grassroots initiative at Oregon State University to improve training
and policies regarding prevention, intervention, and response to sexual assault and harassment in field research. I truly believe in ‘paying it forward,’ and the ARCS scholar award provided me with the support, privilege, and inspiration to do that."
Missy Vaux Hall
Donor
"I'm grateful to donate to ARCS Scholars. They are highly motivated, serious students whose work will ultimately benefit the world. It’s wonderful to develop a relationship with a younger person whose world is quite different and who educates me about their science AND all sorts of other things. It can be
a relationship of fun and friendship. I’m dedicated to the fact that ARCS dollars are unrestricted. The Scholar decides where the money is best spent which creates a relationship of trust between Scholar and Donor––
a bonus for both of us."
