Erik Wislinsky
The ARCS Foundation Oregon Chapter Scholar
Oregon State University, College of Engineering, Chemical Engineering
Erik is developing biodegradable adhesive tapes using plant and vegetable oils and environmentally friendly synthesis techniques. By using a unique chemical component of hempseed oil, Erik developed a new polymerization process for a soy bean/hempseed oil adhesive that no longer requires petroleum-based additives. The final product is completely renewable, and inherently biodegradable. Erik hopes that these developments will help to reduce the great amounts of petroleum-based plastic products that plague our lands and oceans. Outside of school, Erik can be found long-boarding around town, making music, attending concerts, and traveling.
