Bo George reported an active year of getting back to being in-person as well as continuing meeting virtually. (See report attached.) Not being able to conduct many of the in-person events left the program with a surplus. See Bo’s response on how they intend to use that money in the coming year, also attached.

Take Stock in Children program’s model is rated “best in class” by the Florida Legislature with 98% of our students graduating high school and 74% obtaining a post-secondary credential (compared to only 27% of their peer group). For low-income and minority students, education is the key to success and upward mobility. Take Stock in Children is the single-largest nonprofit purchaser of Florida Prepaid College Foundation Scholarships with over $18M awarded to Palm Beach County students.

We received JSF’s annual gift to UF’s Disabilities Resource Center, and very much appreciate the scholarships it will enable. It’s wonderful to be able to count on the foundation’s generous commitment from year to year.
You might be interested to know that the UF DRC recently received a gift to fund four years of a student’s university career, through the Craig H. Neilsen scholarship program for disabled students who have experienced spinal cord trauma. Neilsen contacted UF after recognizing that UF was especially welcoming to physically disabled students. The foundation covers tuition for in-state students (125% of in-state for out-of-state students), basic expenses (transportation, assistive technologies), housing, and an allowance for a personal care attendant. We are thrilled to be able to award the scholarship to a single student this fall, but hope to attract additional students who would be covered by the scholarship in future years.
I’m sure that Neilsen’s interest was a result of the endorsement that JSF’s scholarship conveys, at least in part. Thanks again for being such a terrific partner.
