Native Forward Scholars Fund report (9)
NETWORK
One of Native Forward’s core competencies and priority areas of focus lie in college access. We have funded 20,000 Native students from over 500 federally recognized Tribes at undergraduate, graduate and professional degree levels at accredited institutions of choice through access to financial resources, culturally relevant student support services and transformational programming initiatives. We partner with over 1700 institutions of higher education across the United States to provide advocacy and referral services to students. Our one-to-one outreach to students, includes financial aid assistance, application support, and advocating for our students through improving policies, reducing obstacles, and increasing on- campus support available to Native students.
Brown Bag Lunch Series
The Brown Bag Lunch Series is designed for community members to spend their lunch break gaining insight into topics of discussion affecting the Nation and Indigenous people today. The Brown Bag Lunch Series takes place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with a duration of one hour. Topics include: The Importance of Indigenous Food Sovereignty, Transformative Storytelling from an Indigenous Lens, and Overcoming Barriers for Success in STEM.
Rising Native Graduates
The Rising Native Graduates program focuses on offering academic coaching with the goal of preparing scholars for a graduate or professional degree. This specialized program offers useful tools to help you decide on the right program and university, assist with application materials, and offers recourses that will help your success as a graduate student. Native undergraduates who are in their junior or senior year pursuing a graduate or professional degree, or students in their gap year, who are interest or planning to apply for graduate school, can be scholars.
Student of the Month/Year
As part of our Making the Grad campaign, Native Forward highlights the outstanding achievements of our scholars in academic excellence and community engagement. Each month one undergraduate and one graduate student is recognized as Student of the Month. At the end of the year, previous undergraduate and graduate students who were awarded Student of the Month are entered to be selected as Student of the Year.
TARGET AUDIENCES
For over 50 years Native Forward, formerly known as American Indian Graduate Center, has empowered 20,000 Native students pursuing higher education.
