FLORIDA PHILANTHROPIC NETWORK SUMMIT REPORT (2)
Opening Luncheon: AI and Philanthropy: Forging a
Path to Global Impact
Saif Ishoff of Lab22c spoke of the compelling narrative of hope, innovation and transformative change that this new age of unprecedented technological advancement presents, and the intersection of artificial intelligence and philanthropy. He strove to examine how AI technologies are revolutionizing the philanthropic landscape, empowering organizations and individuals to drive positive social impact.
In addition to being a time of learning, this luncheon (and the other group gathering times) were excellent opportunities for networking.
Concurrent Session: Partnerships that Make the Grade – Scholarships, Academic Support & Mentoring for Underserved Students
Obviously, this was the best session of the Summit with
Malcolm, Lady and Bo explaining the Take Stock in Children/
Johnson Scholars Program. Malcolm shared the history of
the program, Lady explained how JSF’s grants support the
partnership, and Bo explained how the program works for
the student participants. Among the session’s attendees was
Cindy O’Connell of the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, the
organization through which Take Stock in Children purchases
scholarships at a discounted rate. The main objective of the
presentation was to encourage similar public-private partnerships in other places. Before the session was over, there were indications that at least one of the attendees would be looking into setting up a version of this program in her community.
Closing Luncheon: Failfest
This is an always interesting sharing of “failures” with big take-aways:
• We can’t let our failures define us.
• It’s OK to fail. It doesn’t make me a failure as a person.
• Learn to ask for help. (Put the Superman cape down and reach out.)
• “I never lose. I learn.”
• Find ways to keep our mistakes from being failures. We all make mistakes. • Failure is never final.
Education / A Powerful force for change
