TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY REPORT (2)
Celebrating our Partnership
A heartfelt thank you to the Johnson Scholarship Foundation
Thank you for another year of far-reaching student support at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). For another year, the JSF Indigenous Student Excellence Award has served as source of inspiration and care, creating opportunities and affording Indigenous students a quality post secondary experience.
The students you support continue to exemplify a strong commitment to carrying forward Indigenous knowledge, culture and are passionate about serving their communities.
Your generosity is ensuring that current JSF Scholars have the financial relief, peace of mind and motivation to persevere in their studies - bringing them closer to their academic and career goals.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for being a part of our cherished family of donors and supporters. Your generosity has and will continue to give JSF Scholars hope, allowing them to break through barriers and achieve their dreams.
Update on Indigenous Student Services (ISS) at TMU
In June 2023, Indigenous Student Services was renamed as Gdoo-maawnjidimi Mompii or ‘We Gather Here.’ The new name reinforces that prior to colonization, Indigenous people gathered on the land that we learn and work for trade because of the waterways, for ceremony and for seasonal camps. The name reinforces that we are a community that gathers to appreciate and celebrate the different pathways of our students and staff that led us to this point.
Fundraising
In 2022, we secured $50,000 from a foundation grant to support the Indigenous Excellence Program. It is a one-time gift, since their granting policies restrict organizations from applying for more than one year of support.
