March Meeting Information
Ithought I’d use this month’s article to provide some information regarding our March meetings that doesn’t fit in agenda notes or Board reports. I trust that a heads up on some of our guests and some context to our visit will
be helpful.
Angelique Albert has accepted an invitation of the Governance & Nominating Committee to attend in consideration of a Director’s role. She will join the Grant Program Committee meeting and attend the Sunday dinner, Monday site visit and Monday dinner. Since she will be in attendance, and she leads our grantee partner Native Forward Scholars Fund, we’ve asked her to provide an update to the GPC regarding their work.
Along with our guest presenters, we will have a new face at the
Grant Program Committee meeting. Hannah Deadman-Arnst has
joined JSF as our new Communications Consultant. Angie closed her communications company last month to accept a full-time position at Florida Atlantic University.
Sundaynight’sdinnerguestswillincludeacurrentFAUJohnsonScholar. RachelLapenseewillshareher life experiences, including her undergraduate research in FAU’s Elasmolab studying the distribution of great hammerhead and blacktip sharks.
Continuing the FAU theme, Monday’s site visit will be to the University itself. The pandemic postponed this in-person Board visit that was originally scheduled for March of 2021. FAU has grown to be a very significant partner of JSF. FAU is one of twelve SUSF partners that JSF provides annual scholarship dollars to through their Student Accessibility Centers. JSF also provides current funding for their First- Generation Student Success Program. Finally, FAU is the lead candidate for the pilot program for PACKS. We expect to receive an LOI in the coming months based on the PACKS model.
Monday night’s dinner should be special. We’ve asked Caleb Awoniyi to share his story. For a finale, I think he is planning to juggle razor sharp swords.
The stay in Fort Lauderdale will be a busy one for JSF members. But if you have a guest traveling with you, they will appreciate that our host hotel offers great access to the beach. A short Uber ride can take you to renowned Las Olas Boulevard where there are great restaurants and shopping.
See you soon.
