For early career private practice clinicians or academicians, this program provides a unique venue to showcase
their best work whether it be surgical, restorative or both. It also provides an opportunity for early career clinicians to build up their confidence presenting from the large stage, working with the guidance of a mentor to organize and prepare a strong case presentation, and proudly display their work.
“I would like to thank AO for
this amazing opportunity. It
really built up my confidence
and opened many doors of opportunity for me," said Shi Yin, DDS, MS, co-winner of the 2023 competition.
Spearheaded by Amerian D. Sones, DMD, MS, AO past President and a team of
experienced AO member judges for the 2022 Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, the excitement generated by the inaugural AO Emerging Leaders Competition has captured the attention of early career members every year since then. During its inaugural year, the judges were impressed with the quality of the presentations and the confidence and skill displayed by those who participated, which prompted to continue this stimulating program.
“As the Academy grows our membership, our commitment to early career members is strong with new leaders in the field of dental implant practice identified as we transition to our next generation of AO leaders,” said Dr. Sones.
In order to be eligible, applicants must: be an AO member for less than 10 years; provide a complete case that is surgical, restorative or a combination of both; and submit a one-minute video of themselves describing the case.
